Things to check before you order
How deep?
Patios and paths commonly use around 100 mm of compacted sub-base, and domestic driveways around 150 mm or more. Soft ground or heavier vehicles need more; your designer or installer will confirm.
Compaction
Lay and compact in layers with a plate compactor. Allow extra material because it compacts down.
Estimating your MOT Type 1
A 10 × 5 m area at 150 mm compacted is 7.5 m³. At about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre plus 10% that is 17.3 tonnes, or around 21 bulk bags. Try the sub-base calculator
Before your Heanor delivery arrives
Bulk bags are usually crane-offloaded where access allows; very large quantities can be priced as loose tipped loads where access allows. Heanor is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
- Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
- On busy streets in Heanor, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
MOT Type 1 Sub-base in Heanor: questions
Does Type 1 drain?
Type 1 is reasonably free-draining when compacted, which is one reason it is used under drives and patios.
Do you deliver MOT Type 1 to trades and homeowners in Heanor?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
Is there a minimum order for delivery to Heanor?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
How much MOT Type 1 do I need?
Multiply the area by the compacted depth to get cubic metres, then allow about 2.1 to 2.2 tonnes per cubic metre. At 100 mm deep, a tonne covers roughly 4.5 square metres.
