MOT Type 1 Sub-base delivered to Christchurch

MOT Type 1 is a crushed stone sub-base, graded from 31.5 mm (often sold as 40 mm) down to dust, that compacts into a firm, free-draining layer under driveways, patios, paths and floor slabs.

We deliver MOT Type 1 to sites, driveways and yards across Christchurch, from a single pallet for a small job to full loads for bigger builds.

Choosing from our MOT Type 1 range

  • ScalpingsCheaper granular fill for less demanding areas.
  • HardcoreBroken masonry fill for bulking up ground.
  • Recycled Type 1Crushed recycled aggregate graded as Type 1, where suitable.
  • Bulk bags and loose loadsBulk bags for most jobs; loose loads where access and volume suit.

How delivery works in Christchurch

Bulk bags are usually crane-offloaded where access allows; very large quantities can be priced as loose tipped loads where access allows. Christchurch is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
  • In summer Christchurch gets around 16h 30m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
  • Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.

How much will you need?

A 4 × 6 m area at 100 mm compacted is 2.4 m³. At about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre plus 10% that is 5.5 tonnes, or around 7 bulk bags. Try the sub-base calculator

Choosing MOT Type 1

Virgin or recycled?

Recycled Type 1 can be a good option where it meets the specification; ask what your project or local authority requires.

How deep?

Patios and paths commonly use around 100 mm of compacted sub-base, and domestic driveways around 150 mm or more. Soft ground or heavier vehicles need more; your designer or installer will confirm.

Your questions answered

Can I add other materials to my Christchurch delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from MOT Type 1 to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

Does Type 1 drain?

Type 1 is reasonably free-draining when compacted, which is one reason it is used under drives and patios.

What is the difference between Type 1 and scalpings?

Type 1 is graded to a specification so it compacts into a strong, stable layer. Scalpings are less controlled and suit less demanding areas.
