Mineral Wool Insulation: choosing well
Keep it ventilated
When insulating a loft, keep eaves vents clear so the roof space stays ventilated.
How much for a loft?
The common recommendation is 270 mm in total: usually 100 mm between the joists and 170 mm across them. Check the depth already there.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Getting mineral wool insulation onto your Exeter site
Rolls are compressed and wrapped; they are light but take up space, so tell us if storage is tight. Exeter is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
- If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
- On busy streets in Exeter, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
A quick quantity check
A 6 × 6 m loft (36 m²) insulated from scratch to 270 mm needs about 5 rolls of 100 mm and 8 rolls of 170 mm, using typical roll coverage; coverage varies by brand. Try the insulation calculator
Ordering mineral wool insulation for Exeter: FAQs
Is there a minimum order for delivery to Exeter?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
Do I need protective gear?
Wear gloves, long sleeves and a dust mask when handling mineral wool, as it can irritate skin and eyes.
How many rolls do I need for my loft?
Divide the loft floor area by the coverage printed on the roll, for each layer. Coverage varies by brand and thickness; a 100 mm roll typically covers around 8 m² and a 170 mm roll around 5 m².
Do you deliver mineral wool insulation to trades and homeowners in Exeter?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
