Stud spacing

Studs are usually set at 400 mm or 600 mm centres to suit 1200 mm wide plasterboard.

Loadbearing walls

If the wall carries load it needs graded timber to a design. Plain CLS is not automatically structural.

Delivery to Hitchin: what helps

CLS travels in bundles alongside plasterboard and is easy to hand off at the kerb. Hitchin is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• In summer Hitchin gets around 16h 43m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
• Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
• If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.

How many studs do I need?

Divide the wall length by the stud spacing (400 or 600 mm), add one, then add plates and noggins. Our plasterboard calculator gives the boards for the same wall.

Can you deliver CLS timber to a site with restricted access in Hitchin?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

What does CLS stand for?

Canadian Lumber Standard. It refers to the way the timber is dried, planed and finished with rounded edges.
