  • Graded CLSC16 or C24 graded CLS for loadbearing studwork where specified.
  • FixingsScrews, nails and frame fixings to suit.
  • 38 × 63 mm CLSFor non-loadbearing partitions and boxing in.
  • 38 × 89 mm CLSFor taller partitions, more insulation depth or heavier boards.
  • Noggins and head platesCut from the same stock.

Estimating your CLS timber

A 3 m partition 2.4 m high at 400 mm centres takes 9 CLS studs, 6 m of head and sole plate and a row of noggins, then boarding on both sides. Work out the boards too

Planning the drop in Bootle

CLS travels in bundles alongside plasterboard and is easy to hand off at the kerb. Bootle is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
  • Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
  • Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around L20 are priced to the exact address.

Picking the right product

Loadbearing walls

If the wall carries load it needs graded timber to a design. Plain CLS is not automatically structural.

Which size?

38 × 63 mm suits most partitions up to standard ceiling heights. 38 × 89 mm gives stiffer, taller walls and more room for insulation.

CLS Studwork Timber questions

How many studs do I need?

Divide the wall length by the stud spacing (400 or 600 mm), add one, then add plates and noggins. Our plasterboard calculator gives the boards for the same wall.

What does CLS stand for?

Canadian Lumber Standard. It refers to the way the timber is dried, planed and finished with rounded edges.

Can you deliver CLS timber to a site with restricted access in Bootle?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Bootle?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
