Delivering carcassing timber in Ryde
Timber is delivered in packs or bundles on a flatbed; long lengths need clear access along the drop point. Ryde needs a ferry crossing, so deliveries are quoted individually with the crossing included.
- For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
- Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
- In summer Ryde gets around 16h 30m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
Before you order carcassing timber
Cut ends
Treat any cut ends with a suitable end-grain preservative, especially on external work.
C16 or C24?
C24 is stronger and stiffer, so it can span further or use a smaller section. Span tables and your structural drawings decide which grade and size you need.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Estimating your carcassing timber
A floor 6 m wide with joists spanning 3.3 m at 400 mm centres needs 16 joists, plus trimmers and noggins. The section and grade, such as 47 × 200 mm C24, come from span tables or your engineer; send us the timber schedule and we will price it.
Treated Carcassing Timber questions
Is there a minimum order for delivery to Ryde?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
Why is my treated timber green or brown?
The colour comes from the preservative. It fades over time and does not tell you how well the timber is protected; the use class does.
Can you cut timber to length?
Ask when you request a price; we will tell you what cutting is possible for your order.
Can you deliver carcassing timber to a site with restricted access in Ryde?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
