Delivering carcassing timber in Chatham
Timber is delivered in packs or bundles on a flatbed; long lengths need clear access along the drop point. Chatham is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
- Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
- Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
How much will you need?
A floor 5.4 m wide with joists spanning 3.9 m at 400 mm centres needs 15 joists, plus trimmers and noggins. The section and grade, such as 47 × 200 mm C24, come from span tables or your engineer; send us the timber schedule and we will price it.
Choosing carcassing timber
Cut ends
Treat any cut ends with a suitable end-grain preservative, especially on external work.
C16 or C24?
C24 is stronger and stiffer, so it can span further or use a smaller section. Span tables and your structural drawings decide which grade and size you need.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Ordering carcassing timber for Chatham: FAQs
What sizes of joist do I need?
That depends on the span, spacing, loading and grade. Use span tables or your engineer's design; building control will check.
Can you deliver carcassing timber to a site with restricted access in Chatham?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
What does C16 and C24 mean?
They are strength classes under BS EN 338. C24 timber is stronger and stiffer than C16, which lets it span further for the same size.
Is there a minimum order for delivery to Chatham?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
