How delivery works in Exeter

Bulk bags are usually crane-lifted onto a drive or kerb where the vehicle and access allow; small bags travel with a mixed load. Exeter is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • In summer Exeter gets around 16h 30m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
  • Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
  • Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.

Building & Sharp Sand: choosing well

Colour of mortar

Building sand colour changes the mortar colour. For matching existing joints, a sample is worth it.

Soft or sharp?

Use soft building sand for mortar because it gives a smooth, sticky mix. Use sharp sand where strength and drainage matter: screeds, concrete and paving beds.

How much will you need?

A 15 m² floor screed at 65 mm is 0.98 m³: about 1.56 tonnes of sharp sand at a 1:4 mix, or 2 bulk bags at around 850 kg each, plus the cement. Try the sand calculator

Common questions from Exeter

How much sand do I need for a screed?

Multiply the floor area by the screed depth to get cubic metres, then allow about 1.6 tonnes of sharp sand per cubic metre plus cement at your mix. Our sand calculator does the sums.

How much does a bulk bag of sand weigh?

Around 850 kg is typical, but bag weights vary between suppliers. We confirm the weight with your price.

Can I add other materials to my Exeter delivery?
