How delivery works in Torquay
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Torquay is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- On busy streets in Torquay, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
- Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
- If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.

Things to check before you order
Engineering Class A or B?
Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.
Is the wall exposed?
For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Your questions answered
How are bricks delivered?
In strapped packs on a flatbed lorry, normally unloaded by the lorry's crane. Tell us where the packs can go and whether there are overhead cables, low branches or soft ground.
How much mortar do 1,000 bricks need?
Roughly half a cubic metre of mixed mortar, which is about 1 tonne of building sand and 8 to 9 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Our brick calculator works it out for your wall.
Can you deliver bricks to a site with restricted access in Torquay?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
Is there a minimum order for delivery to Torquay?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
