Choosing bricks

Matching an existing house

Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.

Engineering Class A or B?

Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Before your Reigate delivery arrives

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Reigate is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • In summer Reigate gets around 16h 35m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
  • Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
  • Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.

Sizing your order

Take a garden wall in Reigate 6 m long and 0.9 m high: 5.4 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 341 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.32 tonnes of building sand and 3 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Common questions from Reigate

Can you deliver bricks to a site with restricted access in Reigate?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

How are bricks delivered?

In strapped packs on a flatbed lorry, normally unloaded by the lorry's crane. Tell us where the packs can go and whether there are overhead cables, low branches or soft ground.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Reigate?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?

Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.
