Bricks delivered to Dumfries

Bricks are fired clay or concrete masonry units; the UK standard size is 215 × 102.5 × 65 mm, which lays at about 60 bricks per square metre of single-skin wall.

SK Trade prices bricks delivered to Dumfries and the rest of Dumfries and Galloway, so the cost and the delivery date are agreed before anything is loaded.

Before your Dumfries delivery arrives

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Dumfries is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
  • Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
  • For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.

Estimating your bricks

Take a garden wall in Dumfries 8 m long and 1.2 m high: 9.6 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 605 bricks, roughly 2 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.57 tonnes of building sand and 6 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Things to check before you order

Is the wall exposed?

For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).

Colour consistency

Order everything for one job at the same time so the bricks come from the same production run, then mix from three or four packs as you lay to blend any variation.

In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.

Questions about bricks delivery in Dumfries

Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Dumfries?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Can you deliver bricks to a site with restricted access in Dumfries?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?

Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.

How are bricks delivered?

In strapped packs on a flatbed lorry, normally unloaded by the lorry's crane. Tell us where the packs can go and whether there are overhead cables, low branches or soft ground.
