Before your Chichester delivery arrives

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Chichester is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
  • Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around PO19 are priced to the exact address.
  • Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.

Bricks: choosing well

Is the wall exposed?

For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).

Engineering Class A or B?

Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Estimating your bricks

Take a garden wall in Chichester 12 m long and 0.9 m high: 10.8 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 681 bricks, roughly 2 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.64 tonnes of building sand and 6 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator
