Before your Portsmouth delivery arrives

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Portsmouth is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
  • With roughly 7h 57m of daylight in Portsmouth around the shortest day, morning deliveries leave more working light for the job.
  • Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.

Bricks: choosing well

Is the wall exposed?

For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).

Colour consistency

Order everything for one job at the same time so the bricks come from the same production run, then mix from three or four packs as you lay to blend any variation.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Quantities: a worked example

Take a garden wall in Portsmouth 6 m long and 2.1 m high: 12.6 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 794 bricks, roughly 2 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.74 tonnes of building sand and 7 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Bricks in Portsmouth: questions

How are bricks delivered?

In strapped packs on a flatbed lorry, normally unloaded by the lorry's crane. Tell us where the packs can go and whether there are overhead cables, low branches or soft ground.

Can I add other materials to my Portsmouth delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

Do you sell bricks in small quantities?

We price whole packs as standard because that is how bricks leave the works. For small repairs ask anyway: we will tell you honestly whether part packs are possible for the brick you need.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Portsmouth?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
