Estimating your bricks

Take a garden wall in Cardiff 9 m long and 2.1 m high: 18.9 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 1,191 bricks, roughly 3 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 1.12 tonnes of building sand and 11 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Getting the right bricks

Matching an existing house

Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.

Colour consistency

Order everything for one job at the same time so the bricks come from the same production run, then mix from three or four packs as you lay to blend any variation.

Wales has its own Approved Documents, including its own Part L for energy efficiency, and building control is handled by the local authority or a registered approver.

Delivering bricks in Cardiff

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Cardiff is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
  • Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around CF10 are priced to the exact address.
  • If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.

Common questions from Cardiff

Can I add other materials to my Cardiff delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

Do you deliver bricks to Cardiff?

Yes. We deliver across Cardiff, including CF10, CF11, CF24. Cardiff is inside our standard mainland delivery area. Send your list or call 0800 088 6341 and we will price it delivered to your postcode.

How many bricks are in a square metre?

With standard 215 × 65 mm bricks and 10 mm mortar joints you need about 60 bricks per square metre for a single-skin (half-brick) wall and about 120 for a one-brick-thick wall. Add around 5 percent for cuts and breakages.

Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?

Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.
