Delivery to Risca: what helps
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Risca is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
- Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
- Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
Things to check before you order
Matching an existing house
Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.
Colour consistency
Order everything for one job at the same time so the bricks come from the same production run, then mix from three or four packs as you lay to blend any variation.
Wales has its own Approved Documents, including its own Part L for energy efficiency, and building control is handled by the local authority or a registered approver.
Quantities: a worked example
Take a garden wall in Risca 8 m long and 1.2 m high: 9.6 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 605 bricks, roughly 2 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.57 tonnes of building sand and 6 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator
Bricks in Risca: questions
Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Risca?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
How much mortar do 1,000 bricks need?
Roughly half a cubic metre of mixed mortar, which is about 1 tonne of building sand and 8 to 9 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Our brick calculator works it out for your wall.
Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?
Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.
Can I add other materials to my Risca delivery?
Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
