Getting ballast and gravel onto your Edinburgh and the Lothians site

Bulk bags are usually lifted off by crane where access allows; tell us where they can sit and whether the ground is firm. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Edinburgh and the Lothians.

  • Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
  • Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
  • If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.

Decorative areas

Lay decorative gravel over a weed membrane and a firm base so it does not sink.

Ballast or separate sand and gravel?

All-in ballast is convenient for general concrete. For more control over the mix, use separate sharp sand and gravel.
