Getting the right tools and site safety gear

Cement burns

Wet cement can burn skin. Wear waterproof, chemical-resistant gloves (EN ISO 374) and long sleeves, and wash it off quickly.

Dust from cutting

Cutting masonry and concrete produces silica dust. Use water suppression or extraction and suitable respiratory protection, as HSE guidance sets out.

A quick quantity check

Kitting out a crew of 3 means 3 sets each of eye protection, gloves suited to the task, a hard hat and hi-vis, plus respiratory protection for anyone cutting masonry.

• Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
• On busy streets in Wishaw, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
• If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
