Picking the right product

Check the minimum pitch

Every tile and slate has a minimum rafter pitch set by the manufacturer. A shallow extension roof may rule some tiles out.

Fixing requirements

BS 5534 sets out how tiles must be fixed against wind uplift, which in most cases means every tile is mechanically fixed. Ask for the fixing specification with your tiles.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

A quick quantity check

A 26 m² roof slope needs roughly 260 large-format interlocking tiles, or about 1,560 small plain tiles, before ridge, hip and verge pieces. The exact count comes from the tile's gauge, so send us the roof measurements and pitch and we will work it out with the battens and membrane.

Delivery to Wigston: what helps

Tiles and slates arrive palletised and are usually crane-offloaded where access allows; battens and membrane rolls travel with them. Wigston is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around LE18 are priced to the exact address.
  • If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
  • On busy streets in Wigston, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.

Roofing Materials questions

What is dry-fix ridge?

A mechanical system that fixes ridge and hip tiles without mortar, which avoids mortar cracking and is now common on new roofs.

How soon can roofing materials be delivered in Wigston?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Wigston?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

What battens should I use?

Roofing battens graded for roofing work, of the size the tile maker and BS 5534 call for, normally treated.
