Structural use

Roof decks and floors need plywood marked for structural use. Check the thickness against the joist spacing.

Interior or exterior?

BS EN 636 classes plywood as class 1 (dry), class 2 (humid) or class 3 (exterior). Use class 3 for anything exposed to the weather.

Getting plywood onto your Tipton site

Sheets travel flat on the lorry bed and are hand-offloaded or crane-lifted in packs. Tipton is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
• For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
• Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.

Quantities: a worked example

Decking 12 m² with 2440 × 1220 mm sheets takes 5 sheets including 10% for cutting.

Can I add other materials to my Tipton delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from plywood to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

What plywood should I use outside?

Use plywood with an exterior bond, class 3 under BS EN 636, or marine ply for very wet conditions.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Tipton?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

What thickness for a flat roof deck?

18 mm structural ply is common on joists at 400 mm centres; your design may specify more.
