Getting the right plywood

Structural use

Roof decks and floors need plywood marked for structural use. Check the thickness against the joist spacing.

Interior or exterior?

BS EN 636 classes plywood as class 1 (dry), class 2 (humid) or class 3 (exterior). Use class 3 for anything exposed to the weather.

Getting plywood onto your Ebbw Vale site

Sheets travel flat on the lorry bed and are hand-offloaded or crane-lifted in packs. Ebbw Vale is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
• Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
• Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.

Common questions from Ebbw Vale

What plywood should I use outside?

Use plywood with an exterior bond, class 3 under BS EN 636, or marine ply for very wet conditions.

Can you deliver plywood to a site with restricted access in Ebbw Vale?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Do you deliver plywood to trades and homeowners in Ebbw Vale?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Is shuttering ply suitable for building?

It is made for concrete formwork, not for permanent structural decks. Use structural ply for roofs and floors.
