Picking the right product

Which thickness?

12.5 mm is the everyday choice for walls and ceilings on 400 or 600 mm centres; 9.5 mm suits ceilings at 400 mm centres. Fire and acoustic designs may call for 15 mm or two layers.

Which board type?

Use moisture-resistant board in wet rooms, fire board where a fire rating is required, and acoustic board for quieter rooms. Building regulations or your design set the requirement.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

How much will you need?

A new 6 m partition 2.7 m high, boarded on both sides, is 32.4 m² of board: 13 sheets of 2400 × 1200 mm with 10% for cutting, and about 455 drywall screws. Try the plasterboard calculator

How delivery works in Stevenage

Boards are heavy and fragile at the edges; they travel flat and are best stored flat and dry. Stevenage is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• In summer Stevenage gets around 16h 43m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
• Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
