Getting the right plasterboard

Which board type?

Use moisture-resistant board in wet rooms, fire board where a fire rating is required, and acoustic board for quieter rooms. Building regulations or your design set the requirement.

Which thickness?

12.5 mm is the everyday choice for walls and ceilings on 400 or 600 mm centres; 9.5 mm suits ceilings at 400 mm centres. Fire and acoustic designs may call for 15 mm or two layers.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

How much will you need?

A new 6 m partition 2.7 m high, boarded on both sides, is 32.4 m² of board: 13 sheets of 2400 × 1200 mm with 10% for cutting, and about 455 drywall screws. Try the plasterboard calculator

Delivering plasterboard in Saddleworth

Boards are heavy and fragile at the edges; they travel flat and are best stored flat and dry. Saddleworth is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• In summer Saddleworth gets around 17h 03m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
• Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around OL3 are priced to the exact address.
• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
