Plasterboard: choosing well
Which thickness?
12.5 mm is the everyday choice for walls and ceilings on 400 or 600 mm centres; 9.5 mm suits ceilings at 400 mm centres. Fire and acoustic designs may call for 15 mm or two layers.
Which board type?
Use moisture-resistant board in wet rooms, fire board where a fire rating is required, and acoustic board for quieter rooms. Building regulations or your design set the requirement.
In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.
Planning the drop in Kirkcaldy
Boards are heavy and fragile at the edges; they travel flat and are best stored flat and dry. Kirkcaldy is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around KY1 are priced to the exact address.
- Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
- In summer Kirkcaldy gets around 17h 39m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
