Before you order plasterboard

Which thickness?

12.5 mm is the everyday choice for walls and ceilings on 400 or 600 mm centres; 9.5 mm suits ceilings at 400 mm centres. Fire and acoustic designs may call for 15 mm or two layers.

Which board type?

Use moisture-resistant board in wet rooms, fire board where a fire rating is required, and acoustic board for quieter rooms. Building regulations or your design set the requirement.

In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.

Getting plasterboard onto your Grangemouth site

Boards are heavy and fragile at the edges; they travel flat and are best stored flat and dry. Grangemouth is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
• In summer Grangemouth gets around 17h 37m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
• If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
