Before you order plasterboard

Which thickness?

12.5 mm is the everyday choice for walls and ceilings on 400 or 600 mm centres; 9.5 mm suits ceilings at 400 mm centres. Fire and acoustic designs may call for 15 mm or two layers.

Tapered or square edge?

Tapered edge boards are for taping and jointing without a skim; square edge boards are normally skimmed.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Before your Arnold delivery arrives

Boards are heavy and fragile at the edges; they travel flat and are best stored flat and dry. Arnold is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• On busy streets in Arnold, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
• Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
• If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Arnold?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

How many screws per board?

Around 30 to 40 drywall screws for a 2400 × 1200 board on a wall, with screws at about 300 mm centres.

Can you deliver plasterboard to a site with restricted access in Arnold?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

What is thermal laminate board?

Plasterboard bonded to a layer of insulation, used to dry-line external walls and improve their insulation in one fixing.
