How much will you need?

A 3 × 4.6 m room with one door has about 14.4 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 15.8 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Getting the right planed timber

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Softwood or MDF trim?

MDF skirting and architrave is very straight and paints well; softwood takes knocks better and can be stained.

Delivering planed timber in North Shields

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. North Shields is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
• Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.

Common questions from North Shields

How soon can planed timber be delivered in North Shields?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.

What does PAR mean?

Planed all round: the timber has been machined smooth on all four faces.

How should I store planed timber?

Flat, off the ground and inside if possible, so it does not take on moisture and move before fitting.

Can you deliver planed timber to a site with restricted access in North Shields?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
