Sizing your order

A 3 × 3.2 m room with one door has about 11.6 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 12.8 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Delivering planed timber in Isle of Wight

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Deliveries across Isle of Wight need a ferry crossing, so each one is quoted with the crossing included.

• On busy streets in Isle of Wight, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
• Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
• Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.

Getting the right planed timber

Matching old profiles

Bring an offcut or a clear profile photo with measurements and we will look for the closest current profile.

Softwood or MDF trim?

MDF skirting and architrave is very straight and paints well; softwood takes knocks better and can be stained.

Why is my 2 × 4 smaller than 2 × 4 inches?

Timber is often named by its sawn size before planing. Once planed, it finishes smaller, so a nominal 2 × 4 is roughly 44 × 94 mm or less.
