Things to check before you order

Thickness for the U-value

The thickness you need depends on the U-value the building regulations require and the rest of the build-up. Manufacturers publish U-value tables; your designer or building control will confirm.

Sealing joints

Tape the joints with foil tape so the foil layer works as a continuous vapour control layer where the design relies on it.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Getting PIR insulation boards onto your Walthamstow site

Boards are light but bulky; they travel in wrapped packs and should be stored flat and dry. Walthamstow is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
• On busy streets in Walthamstow, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
