Picking the right product

Thickness for the U-value

The thickness you need depends on the U-value the building regulations require and the rest of the build-up. Manufacturers publish U-value tables; your designer or the council's building standards service will confirm.

Sealing joints

Tape the joints with foil tape so the foil layer works as a continuous vapour control layer where the design relies on it.

In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.

Getting PIR insulation boards onto your Auchterarder site

Boards are light but bulky; they travel in wrapped packs and should be stored flat and dry. Auchterarder is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
• Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
• In summer Auchterarder gets around 17h 42m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
