Choosing MOT Type 1

How deep?

Patios and paths commonly use around 100 mm of compacted sub-base, and domestic driveways around 150 mm or more. Soft ground or heavier vehicles need more; your designer or installer will confirm.

Virgin or recycled?

Recycled Type 1 can be a good option where it meets the specification; ask what your project or local authority requires.

Sizing your order

A 10 × 6 m area at 150 mm compacted is 9 m³. At about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre plus 10% that is 20.8 tonnes, or around 25 bulk bags. Try the sub-base calculator
