MOT Type 1 Sub-base: choosing well

Virgin or recycled?

Recycled Type 1 can be a good option where it meets the specification; ask what your project or local authority requires.

How deep?

Patios and paths commonly use around 100 mm of compacted sub-base, and domestic driveways around 150 mm or more. Soft ground or heavier vehicles need more; your designer or installer will confirm.

Delivering MOT Type 1 in Torquay

Bulk bags are usually crane-offloaded where access allows; very large quantities can be priced as loose tipped loads where access allows. Torquay is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • On busy streets in Torquay, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
  • Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
  • Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.

A quick quantity check

A 4 × 6 m area at 100 mm compacted is 2.4 m³. At about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre plus 10% that is 5.5 tonnes, or around 7 bulk bags. Try the sub-base calculator

MOT Type 1 Sub-base in Torquay: questions

Can you tip it loose?

For larger quantities we can price a loose tipped load if the lorry can reach and there is space to tip.

What is the difference between Type 1 and scalpings?

Type 1 is graded to a specification so it compacts into a strong, stable layer. Scalpings are less controlled and suit less demanding areas.

Can you deliver MOT Type 1 to a site with restricted access in Torquay?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Torquay?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
