MOT Type 1 Sub-base for sites in Lancashire
MOT Type 1 is a crushed stone sub-base, graded from 31.5 mm (often sold as 40 mm) down to dust, that compacts into a firm, free-draining layer under driveways, patios, paths and floor slabs.
Builders, trades and self-builders in Lancashire can order MOT Type 1 for delivery to Preston, Colne and the towns in between.

Planning the drop in Lancashire
Bulk bags are usually crane-offloaded where access allows; very large quantities can be priced as loose tipped loads where access allows. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Lancashire.
- Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
- Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
- Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
Getting the right MOT Type 1
Virgin or recycled?
Recycled Type 1 can be a good option where it meets the specification; ask what your project or local authority requires.
How deep?
Patios and paths commonly use around 100 mm of compacted sub-base, and domestic driveways around 150 mm or more. Soft ground or heavier vehicles need more; your designer or installer will confirm.
MOT Type 1 Sub-base questions
Can you deliver MOT Type 1 to a site with restricted access in Lancashire?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
What is the difference between Type 1 and scalpings?
Type 1 is graded to a specification so it compacts into a strong, stable layer. Scalpings are less controlled and suit less demanding areas.
Can I add other materials to my Lancashire delivery?
Yes. Put everything on one list, from MOT Type 1 to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
Does Type 1 drain?
Type 1 is reasonably free-draining when compacted, which is one reason it is used under drives and patios.
