Things to check before you order
How deep?
Patios and paths commonly use around 100 mm of compacted sub-base, and domestic driveways around 150 mm or more. Soft ground or heavier vehicles need more; your designer or installer will confirm.
Virgin or recycled?
Recycled Type 1 can be a good option where it meets the specification; ask what your project or local authority requires.
Planning the drop in Hebburn
Bulk bags are usually crane-offloaded where access allows; very large quantities can be priced as loose tipped loads where access allows. Hebburn is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
- For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
- Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
Quantities: a worked example
A 4 × 4 m area at 150 mm compacted is 2.4 m³. At about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre plus 10% that is 5.5 tonnes, or around 7 bulk bags. Try the sub-base calculator
Your questions answered
Can you tip it loose?
For larger quantities we can price a loose tipped load if the lorry can reach and there is space to tip.
Is there a minimum order for delivery to Hebburn?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
Can you deliver MOT Type 1 to a site with restricted access in Hebburn?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
How much MOT Type 1 do I need?
Multiply the area by the compacted depth to get cubic metres, then allow about 2.1 to 2.2 tonnes per cubic metre. At 100 mm deep, a tonne covers roughly 4.5 square metres.
