Getting the right mineral wool insulation
Keep it ventilated
When insulating a loft, keep eaves vents clear so the roof space stays ventilated.
How much for a loft?
The common recommendation is 270 mm in total: usually 100 mm between the joists and 170 mm across them. Check the depth already there.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
How delivery works in Westhoughton
Rolls are compressed and wrapped; they are light but take up space, so tell us if storage is tight. Westhoughton is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
- In summer Westhoughton gets around 17h 03m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
- Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
Mineral Wool Insulation questions
Do you deliver mineral wool insulation to trades and homeowners in Westhoughton?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
How many rolls do I need for my loft?
Divide the loft floor area by the coverage printed on the roll, for each layer. Coverage varies by brand and thickness; a 100 mm roll typically covers around 8 m² and a 170 mm roll around 5 m².
Is there a minimum order for delivery to Westhoughton?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
Is mineral wool fireproof?
Most mineral wool is rated Euroclass A1 or A2, which means non-combustible or of very limited combustibility.
