Steel & Concrete Lintels delivered across West Sussex

A lintel is a beam that carries the masonry over a door or window opening; most UK houses use galvanised steel cavity lintels or prestressed concrete lintels.

Across West Sussex, from Crawley to East Grinstead, we supply lintels delivered to site with the price and date confirmed in writing.

How much will you need?

For a 1,200 mm clear opening, add at least 150 mm of bearing at each end: the lintel needs to be at least 1,500 mm long. Then pick the type for the wall build-up and check the load in the manufacturer's table, or ask your engineer if the opening carries a floor or roof.

Planning the drop in West Sussex

Lintels are long, so tell us about tight access. Shorter lintels can travel with a mixed load; long steel lintels are handled by hand or crane. Our standard mainland delivery area covers West Sussex.

  • On busy streets in West Sussex, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
  • If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
  • Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.

Picking the right product

Do I need a cavity tray?

Over openings in cavity walls, water in the cavity has to be directed outwards. Many steel lintels need a separate cavity tray and stop ends; check the lintel maker's detail.

Which lintel for my opening?

Measure the clear opening, add the end bearing each side, and note the wall type (cavity width, inner and outer leaf) and what sits above. Manufacturers publish load tables; for anything carrying a floor, roof or point load get an engineer or building control to confirm.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Steel & Concrete Lintels questions

How soon can lintels be delivered in West Sussex?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.

Do I need building control approval for a new lintel?

Making or widening an opening in a loadbearing wall is structural work, so in most cases yes. Building control or an engineer will confirm the lintel.

Can lintels be delivered with my blocks?

Yes. We combine them on one lorry where the lengths and the route allow.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to West Sussex?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
