Steel & Concrete Lintels delivered to Macclesfield

A lintel is a beam that carries the masonry over a door or window opening; most UK houses use galvanised steel cavity lintels or prestressed concrete lintels.

SK Trade prices lintels delivered to Macclesfield and the rest of Cheshire, so the cost and the delivery date are agreed before anything is loaded.

Getting the right lintels

Do I need a cavity tray?

Over openings in cavity walls, water in the cavity has to be directed outwards. Many steel lintels need a separate cavity tray and stop ends; check the lintel maker's detail.

Which lintel for my opening?

Measure the clear opening, add the end bearing each side, and note the wall type (cavity width, inner and outer leaf) and what sits above. Manufacturers publish load tables; for anything carrying a floor, roof or point load get an engineer or building control to confirm.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Sizing your order

For a 1,500 mm clear opening, add at least 150 mm of bearing at each end: the lintel needs to be at least 1,800 mm long. Then pick the type for the wall build-up and check the load in the manufacturer's table, or ask your engineer if the opening carries a floor or roof.

Getting lintels onto your Macclesfield site

Lintels are long, so tell us about tight access. Shorter lintels can travel with a mixed load; long steel lintels are handled by hand or crane. Macclesfield is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
  • Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
  • In summer Macclesfield gets around 16h 59m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.

Your questions answered

Can lintels be delivered with my blocks?

Yes. We combine them on one lorry where the lengths and the route allow.

How soon can lintels be delivered in Macclesfield?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.

Can you deliver lintels to a site with restricted access in Macclesfield?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

What is a padstone for?

It spreads a concentrated load, such as the end of a beam, over a larger area of masonry so the blocks or bricks underneath are not crushed.
