Steel & Concrete Lintels for sites in Highland
A lintel is a beam that carries the masonry over a door or window opening; most UK houses use galvanised steel cavity lintels or prestressed concrete lintels.
Across Highland, from Inverness to Alness, we supply lintels delivered to site with the price and date confirmed in writing.

How much will you need?
For a 900 mm clear opening, add at least 150 mm of bearing at each end: the lintel needs to be at least 1,200 mm long. Then pick the type for the wall build-up and check the load in the manufacturer's table, or ask your engineer if the opening carries a floor or roof.
How delivery works in Highland
Lintels are long, so tell us about tight access. Shorter lintels can travel with a mixed load; long steel lintels are handled by hand or crane. Across Highland, deliveries are quoted individually because of the distance and access.
- Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
- If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
- If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
Choosing lintels
Do I need a cavity tray?
Over openings in cavity walls, water in the cavity has to be directed outwards. Many steel lintels need a separate cavity tray and stop ends; check the lintel maker's detail.
Which lintel for my opening?
Measure the clear opening, add the end bearing each side, and note the wall type (cavity width, inner and outer leaf) and what sits above. Manufacturers publish load tables; for anything carrying a floor, roof or point load get an engineer or the council's building standards service to confirm.
In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.
