Sizing your order

A floor 3.6 m wide with joists spanning 3.9 m at 400 mm centres needs 10 joists, plus trimmers and noggins. The section and grade, such as 47 × 200 mm C24, come from span tables or your engineer; send us the timber schedule and we will price it.

Delivery to West Glamorgan: what helps

Timber is delivered in packs or bundles on a flatbed; long lengths need clear access along the drop point. Our standard mainland delivery area covers West Glamorgan.

  • Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around SA are priced to the exact address.
  • Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
  • Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.

Picking the right product

C16 or C24?

C24 is stronger and stiffer, so it can span further or use a smaller section. Span tables and your structural drawings decide which grade and size you need.

Cut ends

Treat any cut ends with a suitable end-grain preservative, especially on external work.

Wales has its own Approved Documents, including its own Part L for energy efficiency, and building control is handled by the local authority or a registered approver.

Treated Carcassing Timber questions

Why is my treated timber green or brown?

The colour comes from the preservative. It fades over time and does not tell you how well the timber is protected; the use class does.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to West Glamorgan?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

Can you deliver carcassing timber to a site with restricted access in West Glamorgan?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

What sizes of joist do I need?

That depends on the span, spacing, loading and grade. Use span tables or your engineer's design; building control will check.
