Getting carcassing timber onto your Peterhead site

Timber is delivered in packs or bundles on a flatbed; long lengths need clear access along the drop point. Peterhead is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around AB42 are priced to the exact address.
  • If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
  • If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.

Things to check before you order

Cut ends

Treat any cut ends with a suitable end-grain preservative, especially on external work.

C16 or C24?

C24 is stronger and stiffer, so it can span further or use a smaller section. Span tables and your structural drawings decide which grade and size you need.

In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.

How much will you need?

A floor 5.4 m wide with joists spanning 3.9 m at 400 mm centres needs 15 joists, plus trimmers and noggins. The section and grade, such as 47 × 200 mm C24, come from span tables or your engineer; send us the timber schedule and we will price it.

Common questions from Peterhead

What does C16 and C24 mean?

They are strength classes under BS EN 338. C24 timber is stronger and stiffer than C16, which lets it span further for the same size.

Can I add other materials to my Peterhead delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from carcassing timber to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

Why is my treated timber green or brown?

The colour comes from the preservative. It fades over time and does not tell you how well the timber is protected; the use class does.

Can you deliver carcassing timber to a site with restricted access in Peterhead?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
