Before you order sand
Soft or sharp?
Use soft building sand for mortar because it gives a smooth, sticky mix. Use sharp sand where strength and drainage matter: screeds, concrete and paving beds.
Colour of mortar
Building sand colour changes the mortar colour. For matching existing joints, a sample is worth it.
Planning the drop in Swansea
Bulk bags are usually crane-lifted onto a drive or kerb where the vehicle and access allow; small bags travel with a mixed load. Swansea is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
- With roughly 7h 48m of daylight in Swansea around the shortest day, morning deliveries leave more working light for the job.
- Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
Quantities: a worked example
An 18 m² floor screed at 65 mm is 1.17 m³: about 1.87 tonnes of sharp sand at a 1:4 mix, or 3 bulk bags at around 850 kg each, plus the cement. Try the sand calculator
Ordering sand for Swansea: FAQs
How soon can sand be delivered in Swansea?
We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.
What is the difference between building sand and sharp sand?
Building (soft) sand is fine and makes smooth mortar for laying bricks. Sharp sand is coarser, drains better and is used in concrete, screeds and paving beds.
Can bulk bags go on my drive?
Yes, if the crane can reach and the drive can take the weight. Tell us about any block paving or soft ground.
Can you deliver sand to a site with restricted access in Swansea?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
