Colour of mortar

Building sand colour changes the mortar colour. For matching existing joints, a sample is worth it.

Soft or sharp?

Use soft building sand for mortar because it gives a smooth, sticky mix. Use sharp sand where strength and drainage matter: screeds, concrete and paving beds.

Before your Maghull delivery arrives

Bulk bags are usually crane-lifted onto a drive or kerb where the vehicle and access allow; small bags travel with a mixed load. Maghull is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
• For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.

Ordering sand for Maghull: FAQs

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Maghull?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

Can bulk bags go on my drive?

Yes, if the crane can reach and the drive can take the weight. Tell us about any block paving or soft ground.

Can you deliver sand to a site with restricted access in Maghull?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

How much sand do I need for a screed?

Multiply the floor area by the screed depth to get cubic metres, then allow about 1.6 tonnes of sharp sand per cubic metre plus cement at your mix. Our sand calculator does the sums.
