Choosing bricks

Colour consistency

Order everything for one job at the same time so the bricks come from the same production run, then mix from three or four packs as you lay to blend any variation.

Engineering Class A or B?

Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Planning the drop in Truro

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Truro is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
  • Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
  • Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.

How much will you need?

Take a garden wall in Truro 4 m long and 1.05 m high: 4.2 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 265 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.25 tonnes of building sand and 3 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Common questions from Truro

Can I add other materials to my Truro delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

How are bricks delivered?

In strapped packs on a flatbed lorry, normally unloaded by the lorry's crane. Tell us where the packs can go and whether there are overhead cables, low branches or soft ground.

Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Truro?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Can you match my existing bricks?

Often, yes. Send the brick name if you have it, or a daylight photo of a clean face with a tape measure for scale. We will look for the nearest match in current ranges and can usually arrange a sample before you commit to a full order.
