Quantities: a worked example

Take a garden wall in Merseyside 4 m long and 1.05 m high: 4.2 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 265 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.25 tonnes of building sand and 3 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Planning the drop in Merseyside

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Merseyside.

  • Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
  • If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
  • Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.

Before you order bricks

Is the wall exposed?

For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).

Engineering Class A or B?

Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Questions about bricks delivery in Merseyside

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Merseyside?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Merseyside?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

How many bricks come in a pack?

It depends on the manufacturer and the brick. Packs of 400, 475 and 500 are common. We confirm the pack size with your price so you can order whole packs.

Can you match my existing bricks?

Often, yes. Send the brick name if you have it, or a daylight photo of a clean face with a tape measure for scale. We will look for the nearest match in current ranges and can usually arrange a sample before you commit to a full order.
