Choosing bricks
Engineering Class A or B?
Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.
Colour consistency
Order everything for one job at the same time so the bricks come from the same production run, then mix from three or four packs as you lay to blend any variation.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Take a garden wall in March 7 m long and 0.9 m high: 6.3 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 397 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.37 tonnes of building sand and 4 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator
Delivery to March: what helps
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. March is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
- For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
- Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
Bricks in March: questions
Can you deliver bricks to a site with restricted access in March?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
Do you sell bricks in small quantities?
We price whole packs as standard because that is how bricks leave the works. For small repairs ask anyway: we will tell you honestly whether part packs are possible for the brick you need.
How are bricks delivered?
In strapped packs on a flatbed lorry, normally unloaded by the lorry's crane. Tell us where the packs can go and whether there are overhead cables, low branches or soft ground.
How soon can bricks be delivered in March?
We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.
