Before your Hyde delivery arrives

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Hyde is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
  • If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
  • Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.

Sizing your order

Take a garden wall in Hyde 8 m long and 0.9 m high: 7.2 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 454 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.43 tonnes of building sand and 4 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Choosing bricks

Matching an existing house

Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.

Engineering Class A or B?

Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
