Choosing bricks
Is the wall exposed?
For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).
Engineering Class A or B?
Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Getting bricks onto your Hove site
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Hove is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
- Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
- Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
Estimating your bricks
Take a garden wall in Hove 12 m long and 0.9 m high: 10.8 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 681 bricks, roughly 2 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.64 tonnes of building sand and 6 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator
Questions about bricks delivery in Hove
Can you match my existing bricks?
Often, yes. Send the brick name if you have it, or a daylight photo of a clean face with a tape measure for scale. We will look for the nearest match in current ranges and can usually arrange a sample before you commit to a full order.
Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Hove?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
Can I add other materials to my Hove delivery?
Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
How many bricks come in a pack?
It depends on the manufacturer and the brick. Packs of 400, 475 and 500 are common. We confirm the pack size with your price so you can order whole packs.
