Picking the right product
Engineering Class A or B?
Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.
Matching an existing house
Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Planning the drop in Derby
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Derby is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
- With roughly 7h 34m of daylight in Derby around the shortest day, morning deliveries leave more working light for the job.
- If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.

Ordering bricks for Derby: FAQs
Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Derby?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
Can I add other materials to my Derby delivery?
Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
Can you match my existing bricks?
Often, yes. Send the brick name if you have it, or a daylight photo of a clean face with a tape measure for scale. We will look for the nearest match in current ranges and can usually arrange a sample before you commit to a full order.
How many bricks are in a square metre?
With standard 215 × 65 mm bricks and 10 mm mortar joints you need about 60 bricks per square metre for a single-skin (half-brick) wall and about 120 for a one-brick-thick wall. Add around 5 percent for cuts and breakages.
