Getting bricks onto your Clydach site

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Clydach is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
  • For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
  • If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.

Picking the right product

Is the wall exposed?

For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).

Engineering Class A or B?

Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.

Wales has its own Approved Documents, including its own Part L for energy efficiency, and building control is handled by the local authority or a registered approver.

How much will you need?

Take a garden wall in Clydach 5 m long and 1.05 m high: 5.25 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 331 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.31 tonnes of building sand and 3 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Bricks in Clydach: questions

Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Clydach?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Clydach?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

How many bricks come in a pack?

It depends on the manufacturer and the brick. Packs of 400, 475 and 500 are common. We confirm the pack size with your price so you can order whole packs.

Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?

Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.
