Choosing bricks
Engineering Class A or B?
Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.
Colour consistency
Order everything for one job at the same time so the bricks come from the same production run, then mix from three or four packs as you lay to blend any variation.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Delivery to Cambridge: what helps
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Cambridge is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- In summer Cambridge gets around 16h 46m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
- Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
- If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
Common questions from Cambridge
Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Cambridge?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
Is there a minimum order for delivery to Cambridge?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
How many bricks come in a pack?
It depends on the manufacturer and the brick. Packs of 400, 475 and 500 are common. We confirm the pack size with your price so you can order whole packs.
Do you sell bricks in small quantities?
We price whole packs as standard because that is how bricks leave the works. For small repairs ask anyway: we will tell you honestly whether part packs are possible for the brick you need.
