Getting the right roofing materials

Fixing requirements

BS 5534 sets out how tiles must be fixed against wind uplift, which in most cases means every tile is mechanically fixed. Ask for the fixing specification with your tiles.

Matching an existing roof

The profile, size and colour all matter. A photo of the tile and a measurement of its exposed face help us find the closest current product.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Working out quantities for your Newton Aycliffe job

A 55 m² roof slope needs roughly 550 large-format interlocking tiles, or about 3,300 small plain tiles, before ridge, hip and verge pieces. The exact count comes from the tile's gauge, so send us the roof measurements and pitch and we will work it out with the battens and membrane.

How delivery works in Newton Aycliffe

Tiles and slates arrive palletised and are usually crane-offloaded where access allows; battens and membrane rolls travel with them. Newton Aycliffe is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• On busy streets in Newton Aycliffe, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
• Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around DL5 are priced to the exact address.
• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.

Roofing Materials in Newton Aycliffe: questions

What is dry-fix ridge?

A mechanical system that fixes ridge and hip tiles without mortar, which avoids mortar cracking and is now common on new roofs.

How soon can roofing materials be delivered in Newton Aycliffe?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.

Do you supply flat roof materials?

Yes, felt, EPDM rubber and GRP fibreglass systems for smaller roofs. Tell us the roof size and what is underneath.

Can I add other materials to my Newton Aycliffe delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from roofing materials to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
